Of Butterflies and Cinco de Mayo

Last week was very exciting in Room 3!

We have been watching the stages of a butterfly life cycle evolve for the last few weeks.

What started as five tiny caterpillars

became chrysalids

and finally emerged as butterflies.

So of course we named them. The first one was named Butter (clever I know). Slowly the butterflies emerged and they were named in rhyme Flutter, Shutter and Tutter. The last butterfly to emerge was named toaster. The class found this to be entirely too funny. We took the butterflies outside to the lilac bush and waited for them to fly away. As each butterfly flew out the children would say, "Goodbye Flutter", "I will miss you", "I miss Toaster already".

Just look at their excited faces as the butterflies flew away.

We also celebrate Cinco de Mayo. We made sombreros and serapes, guitars for our mariachi band. We sampled guacamole and quesadillas. The kiddos had a grand time.

I can not believe how many students loved guacamole.

We have been working in small groups using the Adobe Voice app to show the stages of a butterfly life cycle. They are marvelous. Hopefully the links will take you to each groups project.
